Eliminate Pain with MLS Laser Treatment

Jan 5, 2021

Pain. We all experience it. Joint pain, degenerative disc disease, arthritic conditions can all be sources of pain. Some can tolerate it better than others. Some turn to other avenues to deal with it.  Opioids, drugs, pain management.  Everyone seems to find an avenue that helps them cope with pain. Specifically with the foot, there are many conditions that can cause chronic or acute pain. Newer technology like Multiwave Locked System (MLS) laser is now an excellent option to treat foot and ankle pain whether that is acute or chronic conditions. MLS laser therapy has a 85-90% efficacy rate in relieving pain and inflammation and can eliminate the need for medication, painful injections, or even surgery. We are proud to offer at the Colorado Center for Podiatric Sports Medicine an alternative to living with pain in the form of MLS laser. Anything that ends in “itis” can pretty much be treated by laser.

The MLS laser is a highly advanced, safe, effective, and proven breakthrough in laser therapy. By radiating specific wavelengths of light, the laser produces a strong anti-inflammatory, anti-edema effect on soft tissue injuries. This helps cells repair themselves faster, reducing inflammation and providing quicker pain relief. In a nutshell, laser increases circulation to the area, decreases inflammation, and blocks pain signals. In fact, this treatment can help patients find relief in as little as 10 minutes! You can begin to see significant improvement in 1-3 treatments.

During an MLS laser therapy session, laser light is applied to the affected area. The laser is precisely calibrated to deliver light energy in a therapeutic dose, wavelength, pulse, and duration. The area to be treated is carefully outlined and MLS laser therapy is then applied in a rhythmic manner. The dual action and precise synchronization of pulsed and continuous laser emissions work at the cellular level and strengthen the therapeutic effect. This is a huge step up from traditional laser therapy, which often provides partial treatment (at best) by reducing either inflammation or pain, but rarely both at the same time.

The MLS laser penetrates deeply into damaged tissue and stimulates cellular activity, allowing cells of tendons, ligaments and muscles to begin repairing themselves. At the same time, the laser energy also increases circulation drawing water, oxygen, and nutrients to the damaged area. This creates an optimal healing environment that reduces inflammation, muscle spasms, stiffness, and pain. As the injured area returns to normal, function is restored, and pain is relieved.

There are many conditions that can be treated with MLS laser.  These include:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Achilles tendonitis
  • Muscle strains
  • Sprains
  • Arthritis
  • Diabetic neuropathy
  • Diabetic ulcers
  • Arthritis
  • Neuromas

The possibilities are endless of how it can help your foot and ankle pain.  The relief of chronic pain may allow you to sleep better, return to sports or activities, spend more quality time with your children or grandchildren, and in general just be happier.  We all know what chronic pain can do to someone’s mood.  If you’re ready to improve your quality of life by reducing or eliminating your pain, don’t hesitate to call Colorado Center for Podiatric Sports Medicine for a free consult.

The length of each treatment and the number of treatments needed will naturally vary depending on the patient and condition being treated.

However, most acute conditions (of less than three month’s duration) are treated with one phase of six short treatments. Most chronic conditions (greater than three month’s duration) can be successfully controlled with one phase of ten short treatments, followed by an occasional maintenance treatment. Each treatment averages between eight to ten minutes. And once the therapy session is complete, you can simply walk right out the door and resume your normal activities.  It’s that easy! There’s no need for recovery periods, and no need for anesthesia or other medications.

There are no known side effects! MLS laser therapy is FDA-approved and extremely safe to use.

While a few patients have reported feeling a warm (not uncomfortable) sensation in the area being treated, patients usually don’t feel any negative side effects from the laser whatsoever. There is no pain, excessive heat, redness, or swelling during or after treatment.

You can see, MLS laser therapy is an encouraging option, with a vast majority of patients acknowledging positive results. But more than simply getting patients back on their feet faster!
